After a self guided tour of RMS Queen Mary we set off along the coast, briefly stopping at Santa Monica Pier. We had lots of fun wandering up and down listening and watching street performers and enjoying the sunshine! As we travelled up the Pacific Coast highway to Pismo Beach, the sea mist began to descend, leaving a rather ominous cloud over our hopes of awesome coastal views. This meant that from Pismo Beach the drive got more interesting!
The road hugged the coastline constantly. This crazy road was very windy twisty so Peter had to have his wits about him. We stopped for lunch at a beach with loads of elephant seals fighting for a space-you wouldn't want to argue with one of them! As well as some cute squirrels who Peter attempted to tame...
As we continued north, the strange sea mist was coming and going. We really thought the vistas around Point Sur were going to be spoiled :(
Luckily the sun came out and we had some great views as we neared Monterey!
After a quick diversion via a quaint town called Carmel we arrived in Monterey. At check in we got free cookies from 'the cool check-in guy' (I think the girls are in love!) As we arrived we saw there was a nice looking Farmer's Market in the main street. After a refreshing swim and a dip in the jacuzzi we ambled through the market and then on to Fisherman's Wharf . As we wandered along the Wharf all the restaurants were trying to tempt us in with free samples of Clam Chowder. We eventually decided on Gilberts where we had a lovely sea food meal looking out onto the twinkling lights of the bay--life doesn't get much better!!
After a wander round Monterey and some more Clam Chowder we set off North to the city. Next stop San Francisco! Look out for the next post and our adventures in San Francisco
Julie :)
